Dedicated to the memory of Peter Barber

Peter Barber, or Dad as we like to call him was born to Albert
and Mabel Barber on 26th September 1933 in Eltham, London.

During the war he
would play ‘chicken’ with his twin sister Audrey as Doodlebugs flew overhead and when they went silent, they would dash to the nearest shelter, just before the bombs fell to the ground.

As a teenager he
developed a keen interest in motorcycles, some may have called it an obsession when he received a gift of a car from an uncle which he swiftly gave away as he had just bought a new bike.

Dad completed his
National Service in the 50’s which included a stint in Trieste, Italy and later met our Mum June in the Territorials.

By the mid 1950’s he
was hooked on Royal Enfield, not the rifles but the motorcycles. He became a founder of the Royal Enfield Owners Club and continued to be a member and regular contributor to the club magazine ‘The Gun’ until recent months.

Mum and Dad married in
1960 and enjoyed a happy family life until mum passed away in 2010.

Dad was the epitome of
the term ‘gentle giant’ and at 6’ 8” tall, he more than satisfied its physical attributes too.

Dad was the kindest,
most generous, sincere and loving man one could ever meet. He was also hilarious too as he made up his own words to songs and could never remember a punchline to a joke. Dad’s world was a very special one to belong to. He gave his time and skills freely, particularly to those needing it most. Never did he charge for his work and we believe the phrase ‘paying it forward’ must have been coined from the way he lived his life.

During later life,
like most of us, Dad suffered a few health issues, beat bowel cancer and was also diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib).

It is with his heart
condition in mind that we have chosen the British Heart Foundation as his charity to receive donations and would ask if you have a pound or two to help, follow the link on this page instead of buying flowers.

Dad was loved by
everyone that met him and will be sorely missed.

Brian and Tony Barber.
